For example, as a teacher I have the ability to either 1) make arrangements outside of Aesop, 2) Request a specific sub in Aesop, or 3) Let the system decide.

One and two are pretty self explanatory, but number three can become confusing. If I choose to let the system select a sub, it first begins calling what is called my "Favorite Five" subs. If none of those subs are available, it then moves to my building "Favorite" list, then to the district list.

Also, it is worth noting all those other subs that may have been eager at first, but are now being picky, in my system if you turn down jobs you get bumped to the bottom of the list. So your work is rewarded, although the best way is to get put into a "Favorite Five" as almost all of my colleagues have the same people listed.

Lastly, as you have probably discovered, subs with teacher certificates are often more desirable than those without.EdTechTeacherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00199904414986246153noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5663666501482618735.post-6551660968673066782011-09-12T12:26:46.302-07:002011-09-12T12:26:46.302-07:00Thanks for the response, Jon. While I wore similarly hilarious t-shirts as a 15 year old, I never gave subs trouble. Years ago I saw a study that linked metal fans to people with gentle, easy-going, and peaceful personalities. A similar article can be found here:
http://psychcentral.com/lib/2008/preferred-music-style-is-tied-to-personality/

My only point with this comment (other than a cheap laugh, hilarious t-shirt pic, and a reference to one of my guilty pleasure bands) was to state that as a sub, we must be on our toes. Acknowledge your students as they walk in, and if one sticks out in your mind, learn their name so you can use it later if need be. First impressions are cheap, but when you are with student for less than 50 minutes, its often all you have. The Subhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10327770048935278181noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5663666501482618735.post-19380281371745902672011-09-12T07:48:08.456-07:002011-09-12T07:48:08.456-07:00An interesting post. :) I agree with most of wha...An interesting post. :) I agree with most of what you have to say. I do wonder about stereotyping students in Iron Maiden T shirts as potentially troublesome. On the one hand, the student did choose to wear the shirt, so you're making a judgment based on a student choice, rather than a non-choice attribute (like height, weight, race, gender, etc.). But on the other hand, which T shirt the student chooses to wear isn't much data on which to base a judgment.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04911022605715994940noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5663666501482618735.post-35314624684178927192011-09-03T11:14:37.630-07:002011-09-03T11:14:37.630-07:00Thanks Mark - can't wait to get in the classro...Thanks Mark - can't wait to get in the classroom!
